Amazon Prime Video set to introduce commercials

Amazon has announced that it’s set to introduce adverts to its Prime Video service.

Amazon plans to introduce adverts to its Prime Video streaming service.

The tech giant has announced that it will introduce ads in the UK in 2024, with the firm explaining that it wants to invest even more money into its TV shows and films over the coming years.

The company – which has already invested huge sums in its streaming service – said in a statement: “To continue investing in compelling content and keep increasing that investment over a long period of time, starting in 2024, Prime Video shows and movies will include limited advertisements in the UK. We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required for Prime members.

“We’re not making changes in 2024 to the current price of Prime membership. We will also offer a new ad-free option and will share the price of that option at a later date.”

Amazon – which was founded by Jeff Bezos, one of the world’s richest men – has insisted that Prime remains “very compelling value”.

The company also promised that it will continue to make its customers its number one priority.

Amazon – which has also invested heavily in sports programming in recent years – said: “Since we launched Prime in 2007, we’ve continued to improve the program and add to the list of benefits our members enjoy. You can expect us to continue to add benefits and features over time.”
