‘Call of Duty’ will continue to grow and expand over the next 20 years, the global manager for Blizzard Activision has insisted.
‘Call of Duty’ will grow for the next 20 years, its maker’s global manager has predicted.
The game has been flying off shelves since 2003, and Johanna Faries, 41, is adamant it will not be slowing down.
She told the BBC: “We look around all the time at things we don’t always get right.
“Where can we get better? Because what got us here to the 20-year mark may not be what gets us to the next 20 years.”
Johanna added the studio behind the game, Activision Blizzard, is always looking to improve every new entry to keep it “exciting”.
She said: “We have to think about curation a lot.
“We have to think very carefully about making sure that we’re exciting, and we’re delighting, but we’re not confusing people at the same time, given how much content there is.”
She also admitted she couldn’t share any details of future plans for the brand, but insisted “the possibilities are super-interesting”.
Gamers are waiting for the newest instalment in the series, ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfarre III’, but fans have been quick to voice their disappointment the 2023 entry will not feature any new multiplayer maps at its launch, with Activision Blizzard instead opting to remaster classic maps from previous versions of the game.
It’s led to some suggesting the new game has been rushed to meet Christmas sales and lacks creativity, but creative director David Swenson, 58, has dismissed the criticism.
He said: “the most feature-rich Call of Duty we’ve ever made.
“I think it actually expands it. It’s just a really cool collaborative environment.”
