Amazon has reportedly considered moving Amazon Pay into a standalone app in India.
The tech giant launched the online payments processing service owned in 2007 and allows users to complete transactions across the web in a similar manner to Apple Pay and Google Pay and now the company is reportedly considering making it it available in its own app, in a similar vein to its rivals.
Sources told Tech Crunch that it is hoped that the “e-commerce giant will boost usage” of their own megastore through the move in India.
The payment method is currently only housed within the company’s primary e-commerce and allows users to send money to individuals or merchants, pay bills, purchase insurance and travel tickets.
One source explained to the outlet that “a separate app with a singular focus could help the payments platform gain wider recognition in the country”, although an official spokesperson for the company declined to comment on the news and described it simply as speculation.
