Dame Judi Dench and John Cena to voice Meta AI chatbot

Dame Judi Dench and John Cena’s voices will feature on Meta’s new AI chatbot in the firm’s latest attempt at A-list bots.

Dame Judi Dench and John Cena are among the celebrities lending their voices to Meta’s AI chatbot.

The former James Bond actress and ex-WWE star will be speaking and responding to users as part of Meta AI’s update to its Llama model for its ChatGPT-like bot.

Awkwafina, Keegan-Michael Key and Kristen Bell are the other stars who will be providing information for users.

Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg discussed the brand’s latest venture into the world of celebrity chatbots at the company’s annual Connect conference.

He said: “I think that voice is going to be a way more natural way of interacting with AI than text.”

Meta hope that this attempt will be more successful than their previous foray into A-list AI chatbots as the technology with “personality” – based on stars including Kendall Jenner and Snoop Dogg – was launched in September 2023 only for Meta to abandon the concept after less than a year.

Zuckerberg also showed off Meta’s Orion smart glasses which he described as “the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen”.

The tech boss also demonstrated smart glasses that Meta has developed alongside Ray-Ban which have the ability to do live translation.

Zuckerberg spoke in English to Mexican martial artist Brandon Moreno who answered in Spanish – with the conversation being translated in real time.

Users are able to dub their videos in another language to make it appear that they are speaking natively and can even change the movement of their lips accordingly.

Zuckerberg said: “We are trying to build a future that is more open, more accessible, more natural, and more about human connection.

“This is the continuation of the values and ideas that we have brought to the apps and technology that we have built over Meta’s first 20 years.”
