Jude Law gives promising update on Sherlock Holmes 3

Jude Law has teased a third ‘Sherlock Holmes’ movie is still in the works and revealed there is “a new iteration of the script” that he is yet to read.

Jude Law has revealed a third ‘Sherlock Holmes’ is still in the works.

The 51-year-old actor starred as Dr. John Watson opposite Robert Downey Jr.’s titular detective in the 2009 eponymous flick and its 2011 sequel ‘Sherlock Holmes 2: A Game of Shadows’, and while there has been no word on the next movie for years, Law has teased all hope is not yet lost for the long-awaited third installment.

During an interview with The Playlist, Law said: “There’s a great will to make it.

“And a great will amongst us all to get it right to do it, to find the time, to find the right team. The one great thing I took from both of those films is my friendship with Robert and his wife Susan, they mean an awful lot to me. The hope is we’re still going to do it.

“I think there’s a new iteration of the script I haven’t yet read. And then there’s a case of, ‘How expensive is it? And can we get it made?’”

The third ‘Sherlock Holmes’ movie has been in and out of development since ‘A Game of Shadows’ hit cinemas in 2011, with rumours pointing to the film utilising time travel in its plot.

However, the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ star has admitted the supposed storyline has since been dropped in favour of other ideas.

Speaking about the time travel plot, Law said: “Gosh, yeah, that’s interesting.

“The plan has been evolving over how many years it’s been now, probably nearly 10 years.”

The actor added it was his friendship with his co-star that has held the project together all these years, and said he missed working with the ‘Iron Man’ actor on the mystery-solving movies.

He explained: “Honestly there’s a friendship, but also the experience of working with Robert, and he really does bring an extraordinarily brilliant, fun, motivated, and inspirational kind of quality to a film set, and I miss it being a part of that. It was a great experience.”

Law will next be seen in the Disney+ show ‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’, in which he plays the mysterious Jod Na Nawood who attempts to help a group of lost children find their way home in a galaxy-sprawling adventure.

While he isn’t sure if the series will be a one-off, the ‘Enemy at the Gates’ actor hinted he would be open to reprising the role in a future ‘Star Wars’ project.

When he was asked if Jod would be seen again after ‘Skeleton Crew’, he replied: “That I don’t know. That’s up to them.

“I guess if it takes, maybe. I don’t know. I hope so! He was a lot of fun to play.”
