Golden Globe Awards: Jessica Gunning and Tadanobu Asano take Supporting Television prizes

Jessica Gunning admitted she’s spent the last year in disbelief as she picked up her first Golden Globe Award on Sunday (05.01.25), while Tadanobu Asano was visibly shocked by his win.

Jessica Gunning admitted she’s spent the last year in disbelief as she picked up her first Golden Globe Award on Sunday (05.01.25).

The 38-year-old actress won the Best Supporting Actress, Television prize for her role in ‘Baby Reindeer’ and compared her experiences since the show was released to a childhood video of her being overcome with excitement at receiving a hamster as a Christmas gift.

Speaking on stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, she said: “Thank you very much, this is an absolute honour. There’s a video of me when I was little, I was about eight and my mum and dad bought me a hamster for Christmas They brought it out in a bin bag – in a cage, not just in a bin bag – and I kept saying, I can’t believe this is happening to me’ and I’ve realised this morning that has been a soundtrack for this last year since ‘Baby Reindeer’ came out, I can’t believe this is happening to me.”

After thanking all those involved with the show, Jessica – who won the award ahead of Liza Colon-Zayas (‘The Bear’), Hannah Einbinder (‘Hacks’), Dakota Fanning (‘Ripley’), Allison Janney (‘The Diplomat’) and Kali Reis (‘True Detective: Night Country’) – paid tribute to show creator and co-star Richard Gadd.

She said: “So I just want to say thank you to anyone who let me come on this journey… Of course, thank you to Richard Gadd, ‘Baby Reindeer’ has changed my life in ways I can’t explain so thank you for everything.

“I can’t believe this is happening to me and I know eight-year-old me wouldn’t either, she’d be chuffed to bits. Thank you very very much.”

Meanwhile, Tadanobu Asano was visibly shocked when his name was read out as the Best Supporting Actor, Television winner ahead of Javier Bardem (‘Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story’), Harrison Ford (‘Shrinking’), Jack Lowden (‘Slow Horses’), Diego Luna (‘La Mqquina’) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (‘The Bear’).

He excitedly exclaimed: “Wow. Maybe you don’t know me. I’m an actor from Japan. Wow.

“Thank you so much. During filming, so I have to come back to Tokyo tonight, tomorrow morning we’re shooting again, but this is a very big present for me. Thank you so much, thank you Shogun team, I’m very happy.”
