Mindy Kaling teases pal Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s cooking ‘blew me out of the water’ on new Netflix show

Mindy Kaling has spilled what it was like having Meghan, Duchess of Sussex cook for her.

Mindy Kaling says Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s cooking “blew me out of the water” after she appeared on her friend’s upcoming Netflix series ‘With Love, Meghan’.

The 43-year-old former actress is joined by celebrity pals including the ‘Mindy Project’ creator and her former ‘Suits’ co-star Abigail Spencer on her new lifestyle series, which sees her cook and dish out practical advice that she believes people can use in their everyday life.

Mindy – who has Katherine, seven, Spencer, four and daughter Anne, born in February 2024 – jumped at the chance to have Meghan cook for her on maternity leave last year.

Speaking to Deadline at the Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday (05.01.25), the 45-year-old actress spilled: “I was just in my maternity leave and Meghan texted me and said, ‘Hey do you want to come be in my show and come to Montecito and have me cook for you?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah that sounds perfect, I would love to do that.'”

Mindy anticipated being wowed by Meghan’s culinary skills and she didn’t disappoint.

Praising her pal’s kitchen skills, she said: “Well I think of myself as kind of an OK cook, but she unsurprisingly blew me out of the water. The thing about her recipes and being there was that it was just really accessible. She has a garden from scratch which I could never do, and chickens. They would probably all die if I tried to take care of chickens.”

Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry – with whom she has Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three – makes a cameo and Mindy dished that he himself is a “pretty good cook”.

She said of the 40-year-old royal: “Harry was there, but he didn’t cook for me. But I hear he’s actually a pretty good cook. He knows his way around a kitchen.”

In a trailer for the show that dropped last week, Mindy said: “This is probably one of the most glamorous moments of my life.”

A show description from Netflix stated: “This inspiring series, produced by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, reimagines the genre of lifestyle programming, blending practical how-to’s and candid conversation with friends, new and old.

“Meghan shares personal tips and tricks, embracing playfulness over perfection and highlights how easy it can be to create beauty, even in the unexpected.

“She and her guests roll up their sleeves in the kitchen, the garden, and beyond, and invite you to do the same. Guests include Roy Choi, Mindy Kaling, Alice Waters, with additional acclaimed chefs and special friends.”

‘With Love, Meghan’ will have eight 30-minute episodes and will premiere on the streaming platform on January 15.
