Samsung will let customers rent a robot

Samsung has confirmed plans for its AI Subscription Club, which will include access to its companion robot Ballie.

Samsung will let customers rent their very own robot.

The tech giant is planning the AI Subscription Club, which allows people to access the company’s AI hardware gadgets for a monthly fee.

As well as Galaxy phones and tablets, the subscription will even include its AI companion robot Ballie, which they unveiled at CES.

In a press conference this week, Samsung Electronics vice chair Han Jong-hee said: “We will apply the subscription service to Galaxy smartphones starting next month.

“Ballie will be introduced first in Korea and the US, and we plan to supply it as a subscription in Korea.”

Anyone paying the monthly fee will gain access to the hardware catalogue, while you can upgrade to newer models without having to sell older devices.

There are also options maintanence services to cover any accidents, while it’s noted the Galaxy AI features will still be free to users until at least the end of 2025.

The AI Subscription Club was initially launched in South Korea last year as a rental programme aimed at AI-powered home appliances like fridges, TVs and washing machines.

Now, the company is expanding the service to include mobile and AI devices, although it will still roll out in South Korea rather than jumping to a global launch.
