A number of popular subreddits have started banning users from linking to X.
Communities on Reddit ranging from r/formula1 and r/military to r/nursing and r/nintendo have also placed a ban on links from the platform after Elon Musk delivered what many people believed to be a Nazi salute.
Subreddits which cover millions users a range of interests and locations around the world have put the ban in place.
Some have confirmed they will allow screenshots of posts from X, but hyperlinks are not permitted.
Reddit itself has confirmed there is no wider ban for platform at a whole.
A spokesperson told The Verge: “Reddit has a longstanding commitment to freedom of speech and freedom of association.”
Despite subreddits being able to set rules for their own community, the representative added: “Reddit Inc. has no ban on X links — there are still plenty of X links on Reddit.”
Elon has addressed the controversy – which has included criticism from historians focused on fascism and Nazism.
He argued on X: “Frankly, they need better dirty tricks. The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired. (sic)”
