Model/TV presenter Alexa Chung has revealed she’s obsessed with parka coats and is convinced they will never go out of fashion.
Alexa Chung believes parka coats will never go out of fashion.
The model/TV presenter has revealed she bought her first version of the classic coat in the early 2000s after being inspired by a picture of supermodel Kate Moss in which she was wearing a “wonderful, slightly dorky, men’s parka” and Alexa headed to Camden Market in north London to pick up her own version.
In an essay for British Vogue magazine, Alexa wrote: “Attempting to re-create the look, I got a pair of swashbuckling boots from high street chain Shellys, and I adored them.
“The key component to Kate’s outfit was this wonderful, slightly dorky, men’s parka, and so off I trotted to Camden Market where I picked up an impossibly heavy ex-army issue coat with a thick wool lining.
“It became a wardrobe staple for years as I traversed the London streets for model castings. Even though I’m convinced it gave me bad posture, I wish I still had it.”
Alexa revealed she had another parka which was inspired by an outfit worn by Sir Mick Jagger and believes she will always need one in her wardrobe.
She added: “Parkas have a habit of always looking like you just grabbed one and slung it on. It is this louche attitude that will always be appealing to me.”
Alexa has teamed up with outdoors brand Barbour to create her own line of coats which includes a parka named after Liam Gallagher – who notably wore parks throughout his Oasis heyday – and the fashion fan admits the upcoming Oasis reunion is giving the parka another turn in the spotlight.
She added: “I recently designed a waxed parka for Barbour inspired by that film, which I decided to name the Liam in honour of Liam Gallagher.
“Perhaps I manifested something, because not long after I had named the coat, Oasis announced their reunion.
“And so it is official: the parka is back, Oasis are back – and I for one am Mad Fer It!”
