Three outage: network investigating ‘small number’ of complaints

Three is investigating a “small number” of customers’ complaints that they could not call 999 amid an outage on Thursday (23.01.25).

Three is investigating a “small number” of customers’ complaints that 999 calls did not go through amid an outage.

More than 10,000 customers told outage tracker Downdetector that they were unable to make phone calls because of an issue on Thursday (23.01.25) – which the network has now been resolved – and some claimed they could not phone the emergency services.

However, the network has said it received a “small number” of reports regarding 999 call failures and is investigating.

A Three spokesman told BBC News: “A normal volume of 999 calls were connected yesterday and our monitoring confirms the service is working fully this morning.

“We apologise sincerely for the inconvenience caused by the issues on our voice network yesterday.”

Regulator Ofcom has said it is in touch with Three to “establish the scale and cause of the problem as soon as possible”.

With Storm Eowyn bringing 100mph gusts of wind across the UK on January 24, the network has put out additional engineering resources, but it has warned customers there could still be disruption.

The spokesperson continued: “Following an issue affecting voice calls [on Thursday], services have returned to normal overnight.

“We continue to monitor and review all services throughout today to ensure full stability.

“However, today [24.01.25], we expect to see an additional impact on our service due to Storm Eowyn in some areas.”
