TikTok has introduced a new feature to stop teenagers using the app at night.
The 10pm curfew will apply to users under the age of 16 and will interrupt their feed with a full-screen reminder and encouragement to “wind down” by playing calming music to help teens relax.
Adolescents will be able to initially ignore the 10pm reminder but later it will display another prompt that is harder to dismiss.
The app has plans to expand the wind down feature by introducing meditation exercises into the reminder.
The streaming platform is also updating its Family Pairing feature – which lets parents put restrictions on their child’s account – by launching a new Time Away feature which will allow parents or caregivers to prevent their child from going on TikTok during specific times, as well as set a recurring schedule.
Parents and caregivers will also have the ability to see who their child is following, who follows them, and which accounts their child has blocked.
