Google unveils Audio Overviews and Canvas for Gemini AI

Google’s Gemini AI assistant has been given a boost with two new features.

Google has launched new features for its Gemini AI assistant.

The tech giant has unveiled two upgrades for Gemini, with Canvas and Audio Overviews both coming to the platform.

As noted in a blob post: “Canvas is a new interactive space within Gemini designed to make creating, refining and sharing your work easy.

“Simply select ‘Canvas’ in your prompt bar and you can write and edit documents or code, with changes appearing in real-time.”

Google say the feature can help with generating “high-quality first drafts” and perfecting the work, updating “specific sections or entire” drafts and asking Gemini to change the tone of entire paragraphs.

Audio Overview was previously available as part of Google’s NotebookLM, and is now rolling out in Gemini.

The feature “transforms your documents, slides and even Deep Research reports into engaging, podcast-style audio discussions”.

Users can upload a file and hear two AI hosts “launch into a lively deep-dive conversation” where they “summarise the material, draw connections between topics, “engage in a dynamic back-and-forth and provide unique perspectives”.

Both new features have launched for Gemini and Gemini Advanced subscribers “globally in English”, but Google has promised “more languages [are] coming soon”.
