Barry ‘Butch’ Wilmore is having a “rough” time readjusting now he’s back on Earth after being stranded in space for nine months.
The NASA astronaut and his crewmate Sunita Williams were due to spend eight days in space and come home on June 13 2024 but technical problems with the Boeing Starliner meant they had to remain onboard the International Space Station until a replacement spacecraft could be arranged for their return flight.
The pair landed safety back on Earth on Tuesday (18.03.25) after a 17-hour journey in a SpaceX capsule, and now Wilmore’s daughter Daryn Wilmore, 19, has given an update on her dad’s condition.
After a TikTok user asked how Butch is adjusting to gravity now he’s back, Daryn replied: “He’s doing good, it’s rough, but he’s a trooper.”
Daryn began posting videos under the title ‘My Dad is Stuck in Space’ to update her followers after it became clear Butch’s stay at the ISS was going to be dramatically extended.
She published her final clip after his big return. Prior to his flight home, Daryn declared: “I’m so happy. I’m so proud” and explained Butch would be going through a process of readjustment when he gets back.
She told followers her dad was “going to spend the next few days going in, tests, lots of medical stuff, because they’re still technically part of the experiment of human spaceflight, and just get re-acclimated to gravity and the routine back here on Earth.”
Daryn revealed she would be making him his favourite dessert, pecan pie, as a treat and suggested his story should be made into a movie.
She declared: “Hollywood, I think a movie should happen. I think a movie should happen. If you want to call me, I have ideas.
“Apollo 13′, that’s a great movie. But do you know what could even be better? This movie right here.”
