Meta adding ‘advanced AI features’ to Ray-Ban smart glasses in UK

Meta has rolled out “advanced AI features” to its Ray-Ban smart glasses in the UK.

Meta has rolled out “advanced AI features” to its Ray-Ban smart glasses in the UK.

Users can now “ask their glasses about what they’re seeing, and the glasses will respond with smart, helpful answers or suggestions”.

The announcement of the new addition to the smart glasses – which start from £299, depending on which type of model is purchased – comes as the firm announced it is rolling out Meta AI for free on its social media platforms Facebook and Instagram, as well as its texting services, WhatsApp and Messenger.

The company said the smart glasses will soon be able to translate speech “in real time between Spanish, French, Italian and English” – with more languages to be rolled out in the future.

Meta – which was founded by its CEO Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 – said in a website post on April 10: “Exciting news, UK!

“Your Ray-Ban Meta glasses are about to get a major upgrade with even more Meta AI features.

“From today, people in the UK will be able to ask their glasses about what they’re seeing, and the glasses will respond with smart, helpful answers or suggestions …

“In a conversation, your response is translated for the other person to read in the Meta View app.

“Not only is this great for traveling, it will help break down language barriers and help you connect with others more easily. We plan to add support for more languages in the future.

“Whether you’re exploring new places, capturing memories, or just curious about your surroundings, these AI-powered features are here to make your everyday experiences even more amazing. Just ask, and your glasses will do the rest …

“We’re looking to bring these features to more countries in the future. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to enhance the capabilities of Meta AI and bring cutting-edge technology to our users – including those in the rest of Europe.”
