Samsung and Google collaborate on Ballie home AI robot

Samsung and Google have joined forces to introduce Gemini to its upcoming home AI robot Ballie.

Samsung and Google have collaborated to introduce Gemini to Ballie.

The South Korean and the American tech titans have joined forces to enable Google’s generative artificial intelligence chatbot on Samsung’s upcoming home AI companion robot.

Ballie – which will be available in the US and Korea in summer 2025 – uses Gemini’s “multimodal capabilities”, as well as Samsung language models, to “process and understand a variety of inputs, including audio and voice, visual data from its camera and sensor data from its environment”.

An example of this is if a user felt tired, the device – using Google’s AI assistant – could offer up advice on how to improve their energy levels from trusted and verified sources.

The partnership – of which Samsung and Google Cloud “are redefining the role of AI in the home” – builds on the successful introduction of Gemini on Google Cloud into the company’s Galaxy S24 smartphone.

Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said: “Through this partnership, Samsung and Google Cloud are redefining the role of AI in the home.

“By pairing Gemini’s powerful multimodal reasoning with Samsung’s AI capabilities in Ballie, we’re leveraging the power of open collaboration to unlock a new era of personalized AI companion – one that moves with users, anticipates their needs and interacts in more dynamic and meaningful ways than ever before.”

Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud, commented: “With Gemini on Google Cloud, Samsung is demonstrating how to deploy generative AI at scale, integrating it directly into the heart of their popular products.

“This expanded partnership with Samsung underscores our commitment to delivering reliable, enterprise-grade AI that drives lasting value for our customers – and their customers.”
