Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has revealed in a memo sent to staff that artificial intelligence (AI) will end up taking some human jobs at the company but has urged employees to be “curious” about the technology.
Amazon boss Andy Jassy says that artificial intelligence (AI) will replace human jobs at the tech giant.
The tech executive sent a memo to staff on Tuesday (17.06.25) where he urged them to “be curious about AI” and stated that the technology will ultimately lead to a smaller corporate workforce.
Amazon is the latest company to set out its plans for its use of AI amid fears that the advancement in the technology will lead to mass job losses across the world.
Jassy expects AI to lead “efficiency gains” that will enable the firm to cut numbers in its corporate workforce.
He wrote: “We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs.
“It’s hard to know exactly where this nets out over time, but in the next few years, we expect that this will reduce our total corporate workforce as we get efficiency gains from using AI extensively across the company.”
Jassy explained in his memo that Amazon is deploying AI in “virtually every corner of the company” and he expects the tech to perform routine tasks such as shopping and daily chores.
He wrote: “Many of those agents have yet to be built, but make no mistake, they’re coming and coming fast.”
Jassy stressed that Amazon staff who embrace the technological changes will be “well-positioned” at the company.
