Intel is reportedly moving forward with another round of layoffs.
According to a California WARN Act notice, the tech company will be letting go of some staff at its Santa Clara headquarters in a new redundancy move, which is estimated to affect roughly 107 employees.
Intel has said this decision has been taken in order to ensure it can become a “more efficient company”.
An Intel spokesperson told CRN: “As we announced earlier this year, we are taking steps to become a leaner, faster and more efficient company.”
The cuts will begin on 15 July, impacting staff across four of Intel’s Silicon Valley sites.
The spokesperson added: “Removing organisational complexity and empowering our engineers will enable us to better serve the needs of our customers and strengthen our execution.
“We are making these decisions based on careful consideration of what’s needed to position our business for the future, and we will treat people with care and respect as we complete this important work.”
Intel is also shutting down its automotive chip division in Germany, outsourcing parts of its marketing to Accenture and targeting cost savings of $500 million in 2025 and $1 billion in 2026.
Intel reported an $821 million Q1 loss and has reduced its headcount from 125,000 to 109,000 since 2023.
Affected employees will receive nine weeks of severance pay or a 60-day notice, depending on their role. Those transitioning to Accenture are expected to receive support through a dedicated transfer plan.
Intel’s restructuring mirrors broader industry trends as major tech firms continue to scale down post-pandemic operations. Google, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft have all announced similar workforce reductions in 2024–25.
The company said it will continue focusing on its core businesses – client computing, data centres, and foundry manufacturing – as it pivots away from non-core sectors like automotive and internal marketing.
Intel had let go of 15,000 employees last year as part of a $10 billion cost reduction plan.
