Apple’s foldable iPhone screens ‘to be produced by Samsung Display’

Apple has selected Samsung Display to manufacture the screens for its first foldable iPhone, reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has claimed.

Apple has reportedly selected Samsung Display to manufacture the screens for its first foldable iPhone.

According to reliable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is working with Samsung Display to supply panels for “a foldable iPhone and iPad project”, which is said to be scheduled for a 2026 launch.

While Apple has not confirmed the development of any foldable devices, Kuo’s supply chain sources have historically proven accurate when forecasting Apple’s hardware roadmap.

CNET reports that the foldable iPhone could resemble a hybrid between a smartphone and tablet, featuring a screen size of around seven to eight inches when unfolded.

If true, it would put Apple’s first foldable device in direct competition with Samsung’s own Galaxy Z Fold series.

According to Kuo, Samsung Display is “the exclusive panel supplier for Apple’s foldable iPhone project”, and Apple is reportedly evaluating several hinge designs to maximise durability and minimise the appearance of creases.

Samsung Display has been a long-time partner of Apple, supplying OLED panels for various iPhone models since the iPhone X in 2017.

However, this would mark the first time the South Korean tech giant is involved in the production of displays for an entirely new iPhone form factor.

Kuo also noted that Apple’s entry into the foldable market is likely to focus on “high-end” devices, suggesting that the first foldable iPhone could carry a premium price point.

Neither Apple nor Samsung Display have commented on the claims.

Foldable smartphones remain a niche but growing segment of the mobile market. As of 2025, Samsung, Huawei, and Motorola lead the space, but Apple’s potential entry could significantly shift mainstream interest in the category.

Apple is expected to announce updates to its traditional iPhone lineup in September 2025, but any foldable reveal is supposedly not expected until 2026 at the earliest.
