Google Photos adds new AI feature to ‘remix’ your pictures into videos

Google has rolled out a new AI-driven tool in Google Photos that lets users turn their favourite pictures into short-form videos.

Google has introduced a new AI-powered feature for Google Photos that allows users to transform their favourite images into short, dynamic videos.

The feature, called Photo-to-Video Remix, is rolling out within the app’s Create tab and is designed to make video creation simple and accessible for everyone.

Using machine learning, Photo-to-Video Remix automatically selects the best moments from a user’s photo library, applies smooth transitions, and adds background music to create personalised video stories.

Users can then edit these AI-generated clips by rearranging photos, adjusting transitions, or swapping out music tracks to better match their preferences.

In its official announcement, Google said: “We built Photo-to-Video Remix to make it easy for anyone to create professional-looking videos in just a few taps.

“Whether you’re putting together highlights from a holiday, a birthday party, or everyday moments, our AI tools do the heavy lifting.”

The feature builds on Google Photos’ existing suite of creative tools, such as collages and Memories, but offers greater flexibility and customisation.

Users can start a remix by selecting a group of photos from their library and tapping the new Remix option within the Create tab.

Google Photos will then generate a video preview that can be further personalised.

Google also highlighted how its AI models ensure the remixed videos feel cohesive and engaging, choosing the right visual effects and pacing based on the content of the photos.

The Photo-to-Video Remix feature is rolling out now to Google Photos users on Android and iOS, with global availability expected in the coming weeks.

This update is part of Google’s broader push to integrate AI-driven creativity into its services, making it easier for users to share and relive their favourite moments.
