Samsung ‘speaking with OpenAI and Perplexity to intergrate more AI into new Galaxy phones’

Samsung is reportedly in talks with OpenAI and Perplexity AI to bring more advanced AI features to its upcoming Galaxy S26 smartphones.

Samsung is reportedly in talks with OpenAI and Perplexity AI to expand the artificial intelligence capabilities of its upcoming Galaxy smartphones.

According to Bloomberg, the company is aiming to offer a wider variety of AI agents on the Galaxy S26 lineup next year, moving beyond its current reliance on Google’s Gemini.

Choi Won-Joon, Samsung’s president and chief operating officer of its mobile division, said the company is exploring multiple AI partnerships to provide customers with the best user experience.

He told Bloomberg: “We are talking to multiple vendors. As long as these AI agents are competitive and can provide the best user experiences, we are open to any AI agent out there.”

The move would reportedly include closer integration with Perplexity AI’s assistant, with Samsung nearing an investment deal that could see Perplexity’s app embedded directly into its devices.

The strategy reflects a broader industry trend, with rivals like Apple also turning to third-party AI solutions to enhance their ecosystems.

Beyond AI, Samsung is also evaluating new processors for the Galaxy S26.

The company is reportedly considering both Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chips and its in-house Exynos 2600.

The recently launched Galaxy Z Flip 7 was the first Samsung foldable to use an Exynos chipset, part of an effort to reduce dependence on Qualcomm and improve efficiency and thermal performance.

Choi also addressed the competition in the foldable phone market, particularly with Apple’s expected entry into the category next year.

He said: “This is just the beginning of making these phones go mainstream. Another global company entering the category would be beneficial for the industry.”

Further details about Samsung’s AI plans and the Galaxy S26 hardware are expected to surface closer to its launch in 2026.
