PUBG leaving PS4 and Xbox One

Krafton has announced that PUBG: Battlegrounds will soon end support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, marking the end of an era for the battle royale on last-generation consoles.

Krafton has confirmed that PUBG: Battlegrounds will soon end support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

In an official announcement, the developer said support for its battle royale will conclude on October 29, 2025, with the launch of Update 32.2.

After that date, the game will no longer be playable on last-gen consoles.

Krafton said: “We recognize that many of you have been with us since the early days, and making this decision was not easy.

“However, in order to continue delivering the best possible PUBG: Battlegrounds experience, we must focus our resources on platforms that can fully support our vision for the future.”

The studio explained that ongoing technical limitations on PS4 and Xbox One – including hardware constraints affecting performance, graphical fidelity, and new feature implementation – have made it increasingly difficult to develop updates without compromising quality across all versions.

Krafton added: “Our goal is to push the boundaries of what PUBG: Battlegrounds can be.

“Unfortunately, this means leaving behind older hardware that no longer allows us to achieve that goal.”

Players on last-gen consoles will have until the end of service to spend in-game currency, and Krafton confirmed it is not planning to offer account migration to newer platforms.

Those wishing to continue playing will need to move to PC, Xbox Series X|S, or PlayStation 5.

Originally launched in 2017 and arriving on PS4 and Xbox One in 2018, PUBG helped popularise the battle royale genre worldwide.

The game transitioned to a free-to-play model in 2022 and continues to receive regular updates, including new maps, modes, and seasonal events.

Krafton stressed that the decision will allow its teams to focus on technical improvements, larger maps, and enhanced gameplay experiences for current-gen platforms and PC.
