Xbox gaming coming to cars to battle passenger boredom on long journeys

Microsoft is teaming up with LG on a new venture to bring the Xbox app to vehicles using LG’s Automotive Content Platform (ACP) to access their favourite games on in-car screens.

Under the system, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers will be able to play cloud versions of Xbox Titles directly on-screen.

This follows on from an earlier partnership this year bringing the Xbox app to LG’s smart TVs.

Christopher Lee, the vice president of Xbox marketing, said in a statement: “Our work with LG is the latest example of Xbox expanding to new places, building on partnerships that already bring Xbox Cloud Gaming to mobile devices, PCs, and TVs.

“By adding vehicles to the mix, we’re giving players more choice than ever in how they enjoy their games.”

The app will either be able to stream games while you’re charging an electric vehicle, or be used by passengers on the road.

The ACP – which is already available in Europe on the Kia EV3 – uses LG’s webOS platform, which also powers its smart TVs.

With Xbox Cloud Gaming now on the horizon, users already have access to a range of streaming platforms like Disney+, YouTube and Netflix.
