Phylicia Rashad paid tribute to Malcolm-Jamal Warner during the Emmy Awards In Memoriam segment on Sunday (14.09.25).
The 77-year-old actress opened the emotional section of the show by honouring her late Cosby Show on-screen son, who drowned in July aged 54.
She said on stage at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater: ““He was a beloved teenager in an iconic television series who the world watched grow into manhood.
“Like all our friends and colleagues who transitioned this past year, Malcolm-Jamal Warner remains in our hearts.”
The veteran actress went on to pay tribute to a host of other stars who were being honoured in the segment, including Teri Garr, Gary Smith, Allan Blye, Terry Louise Fisher, David Duclon, Jonathan Kaplan, Glenn Padnick, Robin Kaye, Mark Snow, Ozzy Osbourne, Loni Anderson, Alan Rachins, Ruth Buzzi, Anne Burrell and Quincy Jones.
She continued: ” Tonight, as is tradition at the Emmys, we remember them not just for their immense talent, but also for the way the made us believe in something bigger, the best that is within us.
“Even though they may not longer be here with us, we can all smile, knowing their impact will remain, knowing that their lasting impressions will continue to live on through story, knowing that they touched our lives. And whether you grew up watching them, or have just now discovered their brilliance, their light remains in the very fabric of our industry.”
Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson performed Go Rest High on That Mountain as clips of the deceased were shown, with writers, directors, and others who worked behind-the-scenes also honoured.
