Hacks star Hannah Einbinder has revealed the hit HBO Max dark-comedy drama is ending with its fifth season.
Hacks is ending with season five.
The HBO Max dark-comedy drama sees Jean Smart, 74, play a stand-up comedienne named Deborah Vance, and Hannah Einbinder, 30, stars as Ava Daniels, Deborah’s young comedy writer, and the duo attempt to navigate their dynamics as a professional partnership and their personal lives through the comedy industry.
Hannah said the atmosphere on set will be “bittersweet” as the cast knows it will be the last time they work together on the show.
She told Live From E!: 2025 Emmys host Heather McMahan: “I think it will feel different.
“We’re going to start next week, and knowing it’s the last season is really bittersweet.”
However, Hannah said the decision to end Hacks – created by Paul W. Downs, 42, Lucia Aniello, 42, and Jen Statsky, 39 – is the right move.
She explained: “But I think it’s right. It’s nice to do something as many times as it should be done [and] not overstay your welcome.
“Rip it and do it and laugh and cry.”
Hannah bagged the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series gong for her work in Hacks at the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards at the Peacock Theatre in Downtown Los Angeles, California, on Sunday (14.09.25).
And in her acceptance speech, the star said she was grateful for all the laughs she had while shooting Hacks.
Hannah said: “I was really committed to the personal narrative that it was actually cooler to continue to lose.
“I was pretty committed to that. But this is cool too. This is also punk rock.”
And she thanked Hacks’ writers Paul, Lucia and Jen for “changing my life”, as well as her cast members – including Jean Smart, who won Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Deborah.
Hannah added: “I want to thank the creators of Hacks for changing my life in every conceivable way, not just by giving me a great gig, but by being my friends and being my family.
“I want to thank Jean Smart, who is like the sun, and I get to stand in her warmth.
“I also want to thank the cast and crew of Hacks.”
