Google updates Discover to show content from social media creators

Google has updated its Discover feed to feature posts from creators on platforms like X, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts, alongside a new Follow button to let users personalize and engage more directly with their content.

Google is rolling out new changes to its Discover feed aimed at giving users more content from creators and publishers.

The company has said these updates are designed to let people follow their favourite voices directly and see a wider variety of content, instead of just seeing traditional news articles.

One of the key changes is that Discover will now include posts from platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube Shorts, mixed in with the usual articles.

Google has said this will happen “in the coming weeks,” with more platforms expected to join later.

Users told Google in research that they liked seeing a mix of content types – videos, social posts, and articles – rather than just reading through only written content.

Another addition is a Follow button, available now for signed-in users, that allows you to follow publishers or creators right within Discover.

When you tap a creator’s name from a card, you’ll see a preview of their content – including their articles, social posts, and video clips – and, if you choose, follow them to have more of their work show up in your feed.

These changes build on Google’s earlier efforts to give users more control, like allowing users to select their preferred news sources for the Top Stories section.

For content creators and publishers, this could mean greater reach via Discover, which is being positioned as a more central hub that blends search, social, and content curation.

While Discover remains algorithmically curated, these updates represent a shift toward enabling users to steer what they see and making creator content more discoverable.

For many, this will transform Discover from a passive feed into something more personalized and interactive.
