Saints Row creator David Stockman says Grand Theft Auto VI “deserves to be $100,” praising Rockstar’s unmatched scale and consistency while warning that such pricing would be “a disaster” if other studios tried to follow suit.
Grand Theft Auto VI “deserves to be $100”, Saints Row creator Chris Stockman has said.
The developerr discussed Rockstar Game’s reported $2 billion budget for the long-awaited action-adventure title, calling the studio “the only players in town” capable of delivering at that scale.
Speaking in an interview with Esports Insider, he said: “They’ve never failed.
“If you just look back into the history of Rockstar products, they’ve never missed. I have a hard time believing they’ll miss this time. I think it’s going to do amazingly well. GTA: Online 2 or whatever it’s called will be another 10-year gravy train.”
When asked about the idea of GTA VI becoming the first $100 game, Stockman said Rockstar could “get away with it”, while warning that other studios should not follow suit.
He explained: “Not all games are created equal. I think GTA is the only one that can get away with it, and I hope they do. I really hope it’s $100.
“I think it deserves to be $100. The scope and magnitude of this production deserves that price tag – but it would be a disaster if everyone tried to match them.”
Stockman also reflected on the departure of Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser, saying future entries may lose some of the franchise’s “biting satire,” but he expects GTA VI to remain “revolutionary” in scale and ambition.
