Melanie C announces first solo album in six years

Melanie C is preparing for the release of her new solo album, Sweat, with the title track available to stream now.

Melanie C is set to release her first solo album in six years, Sweat.

The Spice Girl – who is also known as Sporty Spice in the girl group – has shared the title track from her follow-up to her 2020 self-titled LP, set for release on May 1.

Melanie, 51, says the new dance album – inspired by her ’90s Costa Brava rave days – offers an escape amid “a very dark time” for the world.

She said: “I’ve done a lot of soul-searching. Now I just want to have some fun and get people dancing again.

“When we were young every weekend, we’d go out dancing all night long. In a room of friendly strangers, we found the place where we belong.”

“There are so many horrific things going on in the world, when you make pop and dance music, it can seem almost churlish.

“But music is what gets me through tough moments. I’m really happy I am bringing out a joyful record at a very dark time.”

Speaking about the title track, she added: “Sports, raving, finding joy – these elements are such a huge part of my personality. What works in the club works in the gym – there’s a real crossover.”

A music video for Sweat is due to drop at 4pm BST on Friday (17.10.25).

Melanie has also announced a headline show at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on October 23, 2026. Tickets go on general sale at 10am on October 24, 2025.

As for the Spice Girls, Victoria Beckham recently sent fans wild by sparking speculation she wants to reunite with her old bandmates.

Posh Spice took to her Instagram Story to share footage from fellow ’90s stars Oasis’ Wembley Stadium show last month, which she attended with her husband Sir David Beckham and children Romeo, Cruz and Harper.

Captioning one clip, she wrote: “Tempting,” and tagged her bandmates Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Mel B (Scary Spice), Geri Horner (Ginger Spice) and Melanie C (Sporty Spice).

Victoria has famously stepped back from performing with the group in recent years — notably sitting out their 2019 reunion tour — however, her latest post suggests the door may not be entirely closed and has certainly sparked excitement among the Wannabe group’s fanbase.

The band are contemplating a huge tour in 2026 to celebrate 30 years since the release of their debut single Wannabe, but Melanie admitted not everyone is on board.

Speaking on the No Filter with Kate Langbroek podcast, she said: “Next year is a big year for us and we have to acknowledge it in some way.

“So we are talking about what that’s going to look like and for me, Melanie, I know for sure, and Emma [Bunton], we’d be back on stage. But sometimes other people need a little bit more convincing.”

Sporty revealed she would love to reunite with all of her bandmates on stage for the first time since 2012, adding: “It would be the best thing ever, ever, ever. And sometimes it feels like a duty to the world.

“When we did the shows in 2019 [as a quartet], it brought so much joy to so many people. Not everybody likes the Spice Girls but loads of people do.

“We’re living in this weird world right now. There’s so much negativity and mad s*** going on. Let’s all spice up our lives.”
