Rachel Zegler wants to perform Evita on Broadway

Rachel Zegler hopes to get the chance to perform Evita on Broadway after earning widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Eva Peron in the West End revival of the musical earlier this year.

Rachel Zegler is desperate to take Evita to Broadway.

The 24-year-old star won rave reviews for her portrayal of Eva Peron in the London West End revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical and hopes she is given the chance to perform the production in her hometown of New York.

Speaking on Friday’s (24.10.25) episode of The Graham Norton Show on BBC One, Rachel said: “It’s not up to me, I don’t know, but I would love to. I want to do it so badly. I am a New Yorker, and I want to bring this thing I love so much to my home.”

Despite the acclaim she received, the Snow White actress found it hard to accept compliments from figures such as Lloyd Webber.

Rachel said of the praise: “It freaks me out – I can’t take a compliment. I’ve been so fortunate to work with him – he is so supportive. It’s been an honour, and I hope I get to do it forever.

“I dreamt as a little girl I would perform in Evita, but I thought it would be in community theatre and that would be enough. I never could have imagined it would be like this. It was amazing and I’d do it all again in a heartbeat.”

Rachel previously faced criticism from trolls after playing the lead in Disney’s live-action remake of Snow White – as well as being outspoken in her criticism of US President Donald Trump – but refuses to adopt a “victim mindset”.

She told i-D magazine: “I think a victim mindset is a choice, and I don’t choose it.

“I also don’t choose nastiness in the face of it. I don’t choose negativity in the face of it. I choose positivity and light and happiness. And I do believe at times, happiness is absolutely a choice, and every day I wake up and I think I’m very lucky to live the life I live.”

Rachel explained that she turned to a psychiatrist and medication for help at the height of the backlash.

She said: “My f****** psychiatrist has seen me through all of it. (They told me), ‘What you’re going through isn’t normal.’

“That sentence did such wonders for me in multiple situations in my life.

“(And the meds were) truly a game changer, because I just wasn’t functioning. And I wanted to function in a way that made me feel confident in the way I was moving through the world.”

The Graham Norton Show airs on BBC One and BBC iPlayer on Friday 24th October at 10:40pm.
