Skeet Ulrich and Alicia Witt are to lead the ensemble cast in director Todd Berger’s upcoming horror-comedy The Big Kill.
Skeet Ulrich and Alicia Witt are to star in the horror-comedy The Big Kill.
The Scream actor, 55, and the Longlegs star, 50, have been cast in director Todd Berger’s upcoming satirical slasher movie for Live Nation Studios, The Hollywood Reporter has said.
The Big Kill will feature an ensemble cast which also includes Megan Suri, Pete Holmes, Jolene Black, Jon Heder, Natasha Leggero, Morgan Jay, Trevor Wallace and Steph Tolev.
In The Big Kill, a group of longtime friends and their families gather at a remote cabin after a funeral.
When a killer begins to stalk them, the group is forced to face the darkest parts of their shared past.
The film – which pays tribute to Generation X and is set to popular songs from the 1990s – was written by Daily Show scribe Daniel Radosh, while Ryan Kroft will serve as executive producer for Live Nation Studios.
Kroft said in a statement: “Horror plus comedy set to ’90s music equals a resounding yes for Live Nation Studios.
“With this fan-favorite cast and phenomenal producing team, The Big Kill is destined to be a horror hit.”
Meanwhile, Berger said it was a “dream come true” for him to helm a horror-comedy about Gen Xers.
He gushed: “When I saw Scream in the theater as a teenager, it blew me away because it was a slasher movie filled with people my own age, talking the way we actually talked.
“But then, over the years, I noticed something about the protagonists of slashers – they weren’t aging like the rest of us.
“So now, to get to make a horror comedy about fellow Gen Xers with kids and mortgages and ruminations on existential dread, and to do it with an incredibly witty script and amazing cast, is a dream come true.”
The Big Kill will be produced by Live Nation Studios and Mason Novik under the MXN Entertainment banner.
Novick said of the upcoming movie: “Horror comedies are one of the toughest genres to land. It’s so important to deliver on both the laughs and scares.
“We’re so fortunate to have a cast that is both legacy horror actors and a bunch of really funny comedians, this way we have both great jokes and great kills.”
Ulrich will next be seen in Five Nights at Freddy’s 2, where he will reunite with his Scream co-star Matthew Lillard.
In the upcoming horror flick, Lillard will be reprising his role as the evil William Afton, while Ulrich will portray Afton’s Fazbear Entertainment business partner – Henry Emily.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 picks up one year after the events of the first movie, and follows former Fazbear Entertainment security guard Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) as he tries to protect his young sister Abby (Piper Rubio) from the terrifying truth of the pizzeria.
However, after Abby sneaks out to reconnect with her animatronic friends Freddy, Bonnie, Chica and Foxy, the pair soon discover the sinister origins of the pizzeria.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will also star Elizabeth Lail as Vanessa Shelly, Freddy Carter as Jeremy Fitzgerald and Megan Fox as Toy Chica.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 director Emma Tammi said reuniting Ulrich and Lillard for the horror flick felt like a “serendipitous happening”.
She told Collider: “It wasn’t a coincidence, but it felt like, still, a serendipitous happening.
“I’m, like, pinching myself even thinking that this is what we’re talking about. But Skeet’s name was brought up when we were talking about one of the new characters in the film, and, of course, we went to Matt right away and asked how he felt about Skeet as a potential bud in the franchise.
“Of course, he was just gushing over him in every way, personally, professionally, and also got very excited about the idea of this reunion of sorts.
“It just worked. It worked out, and we’re so lucky to have them, both of them.”
