Square Enix will release Dragon Quest VII Reimagined on February 5, 2026, bringing the PlayStation classic to modern consoles with updated visuals, streamlined gameplay, and a fully reimagined world-spanning adventure.
Square Enix has officially announced Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, a full-scale remake of the beloved PlayStation classic.
The reveal opened Sony’s November State of Play broadcast with a cinematic trailer showcasing the game’s new “diorama-style” visuals – a richly detailed 3D art direction blending hand-crafted environments with modern lighting and animation.
The trailer also offered fans a glimpse of Estard Island, reimagined battles, and the time-travelling narrative that defined the 2000 original.
In Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, players reprise the role of a young fisherman’s son who sets out from his peaceful island home and uncovers a forgotten world hidden in the past.
Joined by childhood friends, the party travels through time to restore lands erased by a dark power, discovering ancient mysteries that shape the present.
Square Enix has said the remake will feature streamlined storytelling, refined exploration mechanics, and a modernised combat system, while preserving the spirit of the original adventure.
Originally directed by Yuji Horii with art by Akira Toriyama, Dragon Quest VII remains one of the largest and most ambitious titles in the long-running RPG series.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined launches on February 5, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
