Ex-Nintendo boss ‘surprised’ Xbox hasn’t released more games on Switch 2

Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé says he’s “surprised” Microsoft hasn’t brought more Xbox games to the Switch 2, arguing that while console wars are over, competition for players’ attention remains as Xbox shifts toward becoming a major cross-platform publisher.

Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aimé is “surprised” Microsoft has not released more Xbox titles on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Speaking to The Game Business, Fils-Aimé – who headed up Nintendo’s America division from 2006 to 2019 – admitted he was taken aback that Xbox has “not yet fully embraced Switch 2 from a software perspective”.

He explained: “I thought there would be much more, especially during this timeframe leading into the holiday.”

Fils-Aimé added several Xbox games could “easily be ported” over to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Microsoft Gamig CEO Phil Spencer has previously called Nintendo a “great partner,” and Xbox has already brought Pentiment and Grounded to the Switch, with Hi-Fi Rush and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle expected to arrive on the Switch 2 in 2026.

However, Fils-Aimé believes the rollout has been slow compared to expectations.

Fils-Aimé also reflected on the shifting dynamics between the major platform holders, saying the “years of direct competition are done”.

The former Nintendo executive argued that while PlayStation remains focused on premium exclusives and Nintendo continues to lead the hybrid hardware market, Xbox has evolved into “a big third-party publisher that also makes some hardware”.

Still, he noted that the “battle for attention and mindshare” among players continues, even if traditional console wars have faded.

Now that Xbox is publishing across PlayStation and PC, and is bringing its flagship franchise Halo to Sony’s console next year through Halo: Campaign Evolved, perhaps Nintendo could also see Masterchief find his way onto the Switch 2.
