Google adds Gemini AI to Google Vids

Google has opened its Gemini-powered video creation tools in Google Vids to all Gmail users, adding AI voiceovers, automatic audio cleanup and built-in image editing to broaden the app’s creative reach.

Google has expanded access to its Gemini AI tools inside Google Vids, opening previously paid-only features to anyone with a Gmail account.

The update marks Google’s biggest push yet to bring AI-assisted video creation to casual users, turning Google Vids from a lightweight productivity tool into a broadly accessible consumer editor.

The company has said Gemini can now help anyone turn rough ideas into polished videos “faster than ever,” with a set of creative tools that were until now limited to Google Workspace subscribers.

The expanded feature set includes AI-generated voiceovers, which let users select from a library of natural-sounding voices to narrate their projects without recording anything themselves.

Automatically cleaned-up recordings – powered by transcript-level editing that removes pauses, filler words and awkward silences – also become available to all users.

Google Vids now additionally offers built-in AI image editing to enhance visuals or transform photos directly within a project, a feature that previously required stepping into Google Photos or external tools.

Google pitches these additions as enabling everything from travel recaps to birthday messages to marketing shorts for small businesses or creators.

The move is part of the company’s broader strategy to embed Gemini across its apps, including Google Docs, Sheets, Meet and Android, turning AI into the backbone of Google’s consumer software ecosystem.

The expansion also helps Google Vids compete more directly with AI-first editing platforms like Canva, CapCut and Adobe Express, all of which have leaned heavily on generative voice, image and editing tools.

While Vids remains a simpler, more template-driven editor, Google is betting that universal access to Gemini features will grow its user base and drive adoption of Gemini across Workspace.

To help users get started, Google has released a new instructional series on YouTube walking through the upgraded capabilities.
