Google has added AirDrop compatibility to its Quick Share feature, letting Pixel 10 users seamlessly transfer files between Android and iPhone for the first time.
Google has added AirDrop compatibility to Android.
The company has rolled out an update that will make Apple’s iPhone AirDrop compatible with Google’s Quick Share on the Pixel 10 lineup, a move that brings seamless, cross-platform file sharing to millions of users and directly answers one of Android’s longest-standing feature gaps.
Quick Share, Google’s native device-to-device sharing tool, will now communicate directly with Apple’s AirDrop, letting users send photos, videos, documents and other files between Pixel 10 phones and iPhones with the same tap-and-go simplicity Apple users have enjoyed for years.
Google says the feature was built “with security at its core,” incorporating strong safeguards that were independently tested to ensure cross-platform transfers remain private and encrypted.
The launch continues Google’s broader strategy of improving interoperability between Android and iOS, following recent collaboration on RCS messaging and unknown tracker detection.
For users, the benefit is direct, as this means no more emailing photos to yourself, uploading files to cloud storage, or relying on third-party apps just to pass something between devices.
The update has begun rolling out to the Pixel 10 family, including the Pixel 10 Pro, where Google has published a short demo showing transfers happening instantly between the two platforms.
The company says it plans to expand support to more Android devices over time, though it has not yet provided a timeline.
Cross-platform sharing has long been one of the most requested features among Android users, and one of the most visible advantages Apple held over competing ecosystems.
By bringing Quick Share and AirDrop together, Google is positioning Android as a more cooperative, user-friendly platform ahead of the 2025 holiday device cycle, where iPhone and Pixel models often sit side-by-side in households.
If the rollout is smooth and widely adopted, it could be one of the most important quality-of-life improvements Android has seen in years.
