Mega Man: Dual Override announced by Capcom

Capcom has announced Mega Man: Dual Override, a new mainline entry arriving in 2027 that revives the classic 2D action platforming series with fresh ideas as the franchise approaches its 40th anniversary.

Capcom has officially unveiled Mega Man: Dual Override, confirming the long-awaited return of the Blue Bomber with a brand-new mainline entry revealed at The Game Awards 2025.

Set to launch in 2027, the upcoming title will be the twelfth core instalment in the long-running franchise and the first new entry since Mega Man 11 released in 2018.

The game is coming to a wide range of platforms, including Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and PC via Steam, signalling Capcom’s intent to reach both long-time fans and new players.

Early footage confirms a return to the series’ classic 2D side-scrolling action, with crisp visuals, bold colour palettes and fast-paced platforming that closely echo the franchise’s roots.

While Capcom has not yet detailed how the “Dual Override” concept will work mechanically, the reveal trailer suggests new movement and combat twists layered onto the familiar formula of precise jumps, pattern-based boss fights and weapon upgrades.

The announcement lands at a symbolic moment for the series, as Mega Man will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2027, having first debuted in 1987.

Over four decades, the franchise has sold more than 43 million copies worldwide and expanded beyond games into animation, comics and merchandise, becoming one of Capcom’s most recognisable properties.

To mark the reveal, Capcom is inviting fans to help shape the new game through a Robot Master design contest.

Selected submissions will be turned into in-game bosses, continuing a tradition of community involvement that has featured in previous Mega Man entries.

Details on how to enter are available through the game’s official website.

Capcom is also using the announcement to renew interest in Mega Man 11, which is receiving new language localisations and limited-time discounts across digital storefronts.

With Mega Man: Dual Override, Capcom appears to be balancing nostalgia with fresh ideas, setting the stage for a major celebration of one of gaming’s most enduring heroes.
