Bungie’s extraction shooter Marathon lands March 2026 release window with 40 USD price tag

After missing its September 2025 release, Bungie has announced Marathon will launch in March 2026 with a price tag of $39.99.

Bungie has confirmed Marathon will launch in March 2026 with a $39.99 (£34.99 / €39.99) price tag.

The delayed extraction shooter, revealed in greater detail through a new “Vision of Marathon” video, is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in just three months’ time.

Bungie has positioned the pricing alongside rivals such as Arc Raiders, signalling a move away from premium $70 releases while stopping short of a free-to-play model.

Marathon is a PvPvE experience set on the hostile planet Tau Ceti IV, where players take on the role of Runners – mercenaries who transfer their consciousness into interchangeable shells with distinct abilities.

Matches centre on scavenging, combat and escape, with death carrying meaningful consequences.

Bungie has said recent development has focused on making the world feel “dark, gritty and grounded”, with improved visuals, environmental storytelling and more dynamic audio.

Several notable changes follow feedback from an alpha test earlier this year, which prompted Bungie to delay the game indefinitely from its planned September 2025 release.

New additions include proximity voice chat, a solo queue option, updated UI, and a limited-loadout “Rook” shell designed for players entering matches already in progress.

On monetisation, Bungie has reassured players that all core gameplay updates – including maps, Runner shells and events – will be free.

Meanwhile, paid reward passes will not expire, allowing players to earn items at their own pace.

The studio has also ruled out pay-to-win mechanics, stressing that competitive integrity is a priority.

More details on seasonal content and public testing are expected in early 2026, with another development update scheduled for January.
