Sony and Tencent have quietly ended their legal dispute over Light of Motiram, with the game being pulled from digital storefronts following a confidential settlement that closes the case for good.
Sony and Tencent have reached a “confidential settlement” over Light of Motiram, effectively ending a high-profile legal battle that centred on claims the game was a near copy of Horizon Zero Dawn.
Court documents filed this week confirm that all pending motions have been withdrawn and the case dismissed “with prejudice”, meaning it cannot be refiled.
Each party will cover its own legal costs, and the terms of the settlement have not been disclosed.
Shortly after the filing, Light of Motiram was delisted from both Steam and the Epic Games Store, with its store pages now redirecting to generic landing pages.
Light of Motiram was first revealed by Tencent in late 2024 and immediately drew criticism for its striking similarities to Sony’s Horizon franchise.
Like Horizon Zero Dawn, the game was set in a post-apocalyptic world dominated by large robotic creatures, featured a red-haired female protagonist, and showcased visual and thematic elements that many felt closely mirrored Aloy’s adventure.
Sony formally sued Tencent in July, accusing the company of copyright and trademark infringement and describing Light of Motiram as a “slavish” imitation of its PlayStation title.
Tencent pushed back, arguing that the concepts Sony claimed ownership over were common genre tropes, and accused Sony of overreach by attempting to monopolise familiar open-world design ideas.
Earlier this month, Tencent agreed to halt all public testing and promotion of the game ahead of an anticipated court showdown.
The newly confirmed settlement removes the need for further legal proceedings and brings the dispute to a quiet close.
While Light of Motiram’s official website and social channels remain online, its removal from major storefronts suggests the project is unlikely to return in its original form, if at all.
