As the wait for a new game continues, Deus Ex voice actor Elias Toufexis has branded the franchise’s decision-makers as “psychopaths” as he confirms he is not working on a new entry in the series this year.
Deus Ex voice actor Elias Toufexis has described the franchise’s decision-makers as “psychopaths” as hopes of a revival fade once again.
The blunt remark came in response to fan speculation on social media, after Toufexis – who plays protagonist Adam Jensen – shared a breakdown of his upcoming work for 2026.
While the actor confirmed on X he had roles on Bungie’s upcoming shooter Marathon and several unannounced projects, he was quick to shut down any suggestion that a new Deus Ex was among them, saying there would be “no Deus Ex because the people in charge are psychopaths”.
It has now been almost a decade since the release of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which launched in 2016 to strong reviews but left its story unresolved.
At the time, developer Eidos Montreal was widely expected to continue Adam Jensen’s arc. Instead, the studio was redirected toward other priorities, including Square Enix’s failed Marvel’s Avengers live-service project and support work on Guardians of the Galaxy and Tomb Raider.
Renewed optimism arrived in 2022 when Square Enix sold Eidos Montreal and the Deus Ex IP to Embracer Group.
Reports later suggested a new Deus Ex game entered development, only for that project to be cancelled in 2024 amid Embracer’s aggressive restructuring and layoffs.
Toufexis later said the cancellation frustrated him primarily because of the impact on developers he knew at the studio, rather than for creative reasons alone.
Since then, there have been quiet indications that Eidos Montreal has pitched fresh ideas for the franchise, though none are believed to have been approved.
The only confirmed project tied to the series is Aspyr’s Deus Ex Remastered, a modernised version of the original game that has already been delayed following fan concerns over quality.
