Samsung plans to double number of mobile devices with Galaxy AI features

Samsung intends to double the number of mobile devices with Galaxy AI features included over the course of 2026.

Samsung is planning to double the number of mobile devices with Galaxy AI features this year.

The South Korean tech company’s co-CEO TM Roh is desperate to ramp up the number of devices with artificial intelligence (AI) as the features are largely powered by Google’s Gemini and would give the US giant an advantage over rivals in the worldwide AI arms race.

Samsung rolled out Gemini-backed AI to around 400 million mobile products – including smartphones and tablets – last year but is planning to increase that figure to 800 million by 2026.

Roh told Reuters: “We will apply AI to all products, all functions, and all services as quickly as possible.”

Samsung is looking to reclaim its lost smartphone crown from Apple and fend off competition from Chinese rivals when it comes to devices such as mobile phones, TVs and home appliances.

Roh – who became Samsung’s co-CEO in November – is anticipating that the adoption of AI will accelerate, with the firm’s surveys on awareness of its Galaxy AI brand jumping to a level of 80 per cent from about 30 per cent in the space of a year.

Search is the most used AI feature on phones, but consumers frequently use the tech for editing images.

Meanwhile, Roh confirmed that Samsung had been affected by the worldwide shortage of memory chips.

He said: “As this situation is unprecedented, no company is immune to its impact.”

The Samsung chief also refused to rule out raising the prices of products, as such an impact is “inevitable” from a steep increase in memory chip prices.
