TV presenter Maya Jama tells Grok to stop modifying and editing her photos

Maya Jama has told Grok to stop editing and modifying her images after X users used the AI chatbot mess with one of her pictures.

Maya Jama has asked Grok not to modify or edit her photos.

The request came after she spotted a picture of herself sitting in the backseat of a taxi was being modified countless times using Elon Musk’s AI chatbot at the request of X users.

She wrote: “Hey @grok, I do not authorize you to take, modify, or edit any photo of mine, whether those published in the past or the upcoming ones I post.

“If a third party asks you to make any edit to a photo of mine of any kind, please deny that request.”

Grok responded: “As an AI, I don’t generate or alter images myself — my responses are text-based. If anyone asks me to do so with your content, I’ll decline. Thanks for letting me know.”

Jama’s warning comes after she revealed she has already been the target of manipulated images in the past. She told fans that before Grok even existed, edited fake nudes made from her Instagram photos were circulated online — something she only discovered when her mother contacted her in distress.

She wrote: “Before ‘grok’ someone photoshopped bikini photos I had on my Instagram to nudes and they went around, I only found out because my own mum sent them to me worried. The internet is scary and only getting worse smh (so much hate).”

Her comments highlight growing concerns among public figures about AI‑driven image manipulation and the speed at which altered content can spread. Jama’s public request to Grok is the latest example of celebrities taking proactive steps to protect their likeness as AI tools become more widely used.

The UK’s Women and Equalities Committee confirmed on Wednesday (07.01.26) that it is pulling its activity from X. Technology Secretary Liz Kendall supported the decision, saying the situation requires swift action from regulators.

It also comes as Ofcom said it had reached out to X as a matter of urgency after reports emerged that users were attempting to use the platform’s built‑in AI chatbot to produce sexualised images of individuals, including minors.
