Meta confirms it is blocking content about ICE on Instagram, Facebook and Threads

Meta has said it is blocking links and posts about the “ICE List” across Instagram, Facebook and Threads due to concerns over sharing personally identifiable information.

Meta has confirmed it is blocking links and posts related to the “ICE List” across Instagram, Facebook and Threads.

Users began reporting this week that links to ICE List 0 a Europe-based website that catalogues information about U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents – were being removed or blocked entirely.

Attempts to post the site now trigger warnings such as “Link not allowed” or messages stating that activity is restricted “to protect our community”.

The blocks appear to apply across Meta-owned platforms, though links remain shareable on WhatsApp.

Meta spokesperson Andy Stone told WIRED the action was consistent with the company’s Community Standards, which prohibit sharing or soliciting personally identifiable information (PII), including sensitive details about law enforcement personnel.

ICE List’s creators dispute that characterisation, arguing much of the information comes from public sources such as LinkedIn profiles, press releases and court documents – material that Meta’s own policies say may be allowed when it is already publicly available.

The timing of the block has drawn scrutiny, as it follows heightened protests and criticism of ICE after the fatal shooting of Minnesota nurse Alex Pretti during an encounter with federal agents earlier this month.

The site also gained attention earlier this month after claiming to have obtained data on roughly 4,500 Department of Homeland Security employees from a whistleblower, raising alarms within DHS and among lawmakers.

Critics argue the move fits a broader pattern of Meta tightening moderation around content that could expose law enforcement identities, amid pressure from the Trump administration to curb what it describes as “doxxing” of federal agents.

The decision has also reignited accusations that Meta’s leadership, including CEO Mark Zuckerberg, has grown more accommodating toward conservative political power since Donald Trump returned to the White House.

Meta has rejected claims of political motivation, framing the block as a safety measure rather than censorship.
