Beyond Good and Evil 2 boss insists studio ‘remains committed’ to game amid Ubisoft’s reshuffle

Following Ubisoft’s major company restructure, Beyond Good and Evil 2 creative director Fawzi Mesmar has reassured fans the long-delayed sequel is still in active development and unaffected by the studio’s wider shake-up.

Beyond Good and Evil 2’s creative director has reassured fans the studio “remains committed” to the game following Ubisoft’s recent major reshuffle.

Writing on LinkedIn, creative director Fawzi Mesmar said the Montpellier-based team behind Beyond Good and Evil 2 had not been impacted by Ubisoft’s restructuring – which has seen multiple projects cancelled or delayed, studios closed, and hundreds of roles placed at risk across the company.

He wrote: “Thank you for everyone who has reached out to me over the past few days in regards to recent news at Ubisoft.

“Myself, my team and our project Beyond Good and Evil 2 are unaffected by the recent changes.

“I would direct you to the official press release for more information around the latest organisational structure.”

He added: “Needless to say, I am saddened by the cancellations that has affected my colleagues in other parts of Ubisoft and the industry.

“I urge everyone – myself included – to offer support whenever and however they can during these times.

“We remain committed and focused on delivering a remarkable game for our players to enjoy.”

The statement follows Ubisoft’s decision to reorganise its portfolio into five “Creative Houses”, grouping franchises by genre and audience.

Beyond Good and Evil has been placed into Creative House 4, alongside narrative-driven and fantasy-focused series such as Rayman, Anno, Might and Magic, and Prince of Persia.

Notably, the long-delayed Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake was cancelled as part of the same reshuffle.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 has endured one of the most protracted development cycles in modern gaming.

First conceived in the mid-2000s, the project was reintroduced with significant ambition in 2017, promising large-scale space exploration and a sprawling sci-fi universe.

Progress has since been hampered by leadership changes, including the departure of original creator Michel Ancel and the death of former creative lead Emil Morel.

Mesmar was brought in to stabilise development, and recent signs – including character cameos in the Beyond Good and Evil 20th Anniversary Edition – suggest the project is still inching forward.

However, nearly two decades on, Ubisoft has yet to share a release window.
