The shooter, which follows a live service model similar to rivals like Call of Duty and Apex Legends, delayed its second season from January to mid-February 2026.
In a competitive market where players frequently jump between titles, even short postponements can impact engagement — and recent player count dips have underlined that pressure.
Explaining the reasoning behind the decision, Girette told GameReactor: “We saw the content we had planned for Season 2 and we wanted just to give that a little bit more time in the oven to polish things and make sure we hit the expectations that players have.”
The developer explained how the seasonal roadmap model means that timing is paramount.
Girette said: “Obviously, once you plan out seasons, there’s a lot of things that come with that like the marketing work behind it, making sure the timings affect not only the game itself but many, many other things. Future seasons as well. Absolutely, we need to make sure those hit as expected and we have taken quite a lot of different steps in different departments to make sure that the players get the seasons immediately once the season is planned to end.”
Season 2 launches on Tuesday (17.02.26) with three content drops. The first, Extreme Measures, adds the Contaminated map alongside new weapons and aerial vehicles. Nightfall follows on March 17, with Hunter/Prey arriving on April 14.
With Season 1 introducing the free-to-play Redsec battle royale mode, EA is betting that steady updates will stabilise momentum. Whether Season 2 can win back lapsed players remains to be seen — but Battlefield Studios insists lessons have been learned.
