Neil’s career has spanned more than six decades.

Rising to fame in the late 1950s and early 1960s, he became one of the defining voices of the early pop era with hits such as Oh! Carol, Calendar Girl and Breaking Up Is Hard to Do – the latter becoming a No. 1 single twice in two different arrangements.

Trained in classical piano from a young age, he combined melodic craftsmanship with a keen instinct for commercial pop, often collaborating with lyricist Howard Greenfield.

Neil was briefly a member of The Tokens before launching his solo career.

After a dip in popularity in the late 1960s, he enjoyed a major resurgence in the 1970s with songs including Laughter in the Rain and Bad Blood.

Over the years, he has been nominated for multiple Grammy awards and inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
