The flamboyant Italian designer has twice dressed the Paint the Town Red singer in custom looks for the Grammy Awards and was more than happy to work with the musician because of her knowledge of fashion and how to dress.
She gushed to America’s Vogue magazine: “Her talent is mind-blowing, and she has such a big heart – I love her.
“She understands her body and what suits her and the power of clothes. For me, she represents exactly the woman I love to dress.
Fellow designer Marc Jacobs – who created an animal print crystal-studded bodysuit for Doja to wear to last year’s Met Gala – agreed with Donatella.
He said of their collaboration: “Doja is someone who knows exactly what she wants.
“She came with references, mood boards, and really considered feedback…while never shying away from trying something the team suggested. And she can pull off a look like no one else.”
The 30-year-old rapper’s personal style has become more subdued in recent times and she admitted she feels “safer” in labels such as The Row, Phoebe Philo and Khaite.
She said: “I think it’s made me feel safer.
“It’s just as exciting as when I was wearing cat ears and go-go boots and crazy, silly, whimsical stuff.”
When she starts work on a new musical project, Doja’s fashion choices are just as important to her.
She said: “I think that one of my strong suits is world-building, and I do that really, really fast.”
But on her current Vie tour, Doja has opted to chose her outfits at the last minute, albeit from a curated selection of garments and accessories.
She said: “Some days I look very formal and less manic, and it’s beautiful jewels, and suiting, and structure, and things like that. Or it’s bras, and sex, and mania, and psychopathy.
“I think it makes the show stronger, and it makes me feel stronger inside.”
