Scooby-Doo is returning with a live action series with Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, and the rest of the Scooby Gang has been revealed.
Tanner Hagen, Abby Ryder Forston and Maxwell Jenkins have joined the cast of Netflix’s Scooby-Doo series.
The trio will play Shaggy Rogers, Velma Dinkley and Fred Jones respectfully in the upcoming as yet untitled live action show alongside previously announced Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake.
Taking to Instagram, Tanner said: “ZOINKS! Like… is this even life?
“So incredibly grateful to be stepping into the shoes of the iconic Shaggy Rogers in the upcoming Netflix live-action series!
“Thank you to everyone who has helped me get here. See you soon gang!”
Mckenna quipped: “JEEPERSSSS I’m so excited! The start of the mystery gang.”
Maxwell added he is “so grateful for the opportunity”, while Abby wrote: “JINKIES!!
“Excited to go solve some mysteries with the gang! So honoured to be the next to wear that iconic turtleneck See y’all soon!”
The series – described by Netflix as a “modern reimagining of the beloved franchise” – will explore how the teenage mystery solving team “first teamed up”, starting with old friends Shaggy and Daphne during “their final summer at camp”.
In a press release, the streamer teased: “The two get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
“With help from the pragmatic and scientific townie Velma and the strange but ever-so-handsome new kid Freddy, they set out to solve the case that’s pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
The Scooby-Doo cartoon first launched in 1969 as part of the CBS Saturday morning line-up, going onto span three movies, almost 40 animated home video films, and over a dozen animated series.
The show will mark the first live-action adaptation of the original cartoon since 2004’s Scooby-Doo: Monsters Unleashed, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar, Freddie Prinze Jr., Linda Cardellini and Matthew Lillard.
Scream star Matthew recently revealed he is excited for the new show, although he would love another animated series for the current generation of children.
He told Entertainment Weekly: “My general thought is that I’m really happy for them. I think that the show needs to come back.
“We haven’t done an animated series now in years, which I think is horrible. I think that it’s a great way for kids to understand storytelling.
“It’s the first introduction to ghost stories for a lot of kids, right?”
And he pointed out that Scooby-Do has some important lessons to learn from.
He added: “It’s about friendship and sticking together as a gang and working together to solve mysteries — and that normally it’s a dangerous white man behind a mask. These are the things that kids have to learn.”
