Kaia Gerber has teamed up with Repetto for a new capsule collection and learned to dance to show off the footwear in a short film.
Kaia Gerber learned to dance for a new footwear campaign.
The 24-year-old actress-and-model has teamed up with French ballet flat firm Repetto for a new collaboration, and not only did she develop two shoes for a capsule collection, she also conceived a short film, In Bloom, for which she took part in intense training with choreographer Fanny Sage for several months before filming.
Kaia told WWD’s Footwear News: “Ballet flats have always been a part of my wardrobe. I’ve always been drawn to their understated elegance and the freedom they offer. Repetto, in particular, represents a very instinctive idea of French style to me, something refined yet effortless. I love pieces that move with the body and this type of shoe has always embodied that sense of lightness and quiet confidence…
“What resonates with me most is their authentic connection to the world of dance. Every pair carries a sense of dedication and craftsmanship that feels incredibly meaningful. I’m inspired by this balance, the fusion between strength and softness and by the way Repetto translates movement into something tangible through design.”
Kaia has a style named after her in the capsule collection, which features a bow and a low 2cm heel. The Kaia is made from suede leather and comes in black, classic blue, flame red and pommard red. The other design, the Pina – which is named for choreographer Pina Bausch, who was known for putting her dancers in Mary Janes – features a 4.5cm heel and a strap across the front, and comes in black or deep red.
Both feature Kaia’s signature stamped on the insole.
She said of the designs: “What I love about this collection is how naturally it reflects my own vision of femininity, something modern, refined and easy to live in. I feel connected to both styles, as they are inspired by muses I’ve always admired and aspired to in different ways, such as Jane Birkin. Each design expresses a distinct attitude while sharing the same sense of effortless elegance and freedom of movement.”
Meanwhile, the company praised Kaia for her “discipline generosity and authenticity” in the collaboration.
Repetto CEO and president Charlotte Gaucher said in a statement: “Our ongoing dialogue with Kaia shaped every layer of the project, from the movement explored in the film to the creative decisions behind the collection.
“I was deeply moved by the discipline, generosity, and authenticity she brought to the work. Our artisans in Dordogne, our creative teams, and Kaia worked with the same rhythm, the same commitment; that collective energy is what gives this project its depth.”
