Lily Allen’s wardrobe is ‘overflowing’

West End Girl star Lily Allen has confessed she “needs a bigger wardrobe” because it’s currently “overflowing with stuff”.

Lily Allen “needs a bigger wardrobe” because it’s currently “overflowing with stuff”.

The 40-year-old West End Girl star had admitted she has too many clothes – including “about 25” pairs of jeans that she never wears – and her current storage system at home is too small to fit all her designer pieces.

When asked to name an item of clothing she has “too many of”, Lily told The Sunday Times newspaper: “Jeans. I have a pair of The Row straight-leg jeans in a black-grey distressed colour that I pretty much live in. And then I have about 25 other pairs that I never wear but haven’t got around to throwing out.

“I live in a flat and my wardrobe is very modest in size, so it’s overflowing with stuff. I need a bigger wardrobe”.

Lily went on to admit she tries not to hang onto her outfits for “long” because she worries about going into “hoarding territory” but she has a storage unit filled with meaningful pieces from over the years.

She explained: “I don’t keep things for long. I can go into hoarding territory if I don’t keep an eye on it, so I try not to attach much meaning to things.

“But I have stuff in storage that I’ve worn to events over the years or things that have been made for me specially …

“I keep them for my kids, hoping that they’ll appreciate them in years to come, but I don’t know if they will”.

It comes after the singer admitted she’s addicted to “material things”.

Lily is in recovery after spending years dealing with drug and alcohol issues and she admitted she swapped one addiction for another and now uses shopping as an “escape” – explaining she tries to “get rid” of her money by splashing her cash on “designer goods”.

She told ELLE UK magazine: “[Addiction is] a need to escape myself. And to find something to help me with that … Because myself is unbearable. Unbearable. And alcohol and drugs numb you to that. So does sex, food, spending money, conflict …

“If I have an addiction, it’s to material things.
I don’t believe that I am worthy of the things that I have in the world or money that I make, so a part of me tries to get rid of it.

“And designer goods are a really good way of doing that. I also feel titillated by the idea of running out of money. It drives me.”

Lily went on to reveal her recent purchases include a Porsche 911 Carrera sports car, a painting and an emerald ring.

She added of the £120,000 car: “I feel a bit silly, but also I’ve always wanted one … I don’t like to be too comfortable.”

When asked if she feels “happier on the edge?”, the singer replied: “Yes, but that’s not healthy. Because if I felt like a complete, whole, full person, then I would think I was worthy of
having a nice house and paying off my mortgage and doing the weekly shopping.”
