Bruce Willis filmed Gorillaz video for free

Bruce Willis insisted he didn’t want to be paid for his appearance in Gorillaz’s Stylo video so the band left some “nice red wine” in his trailer to say thank you.

Bruce Willis refused to take a fee for his appearance in Gorillaz’s Stylo video.

The Die Hard star made a cameo in the promo for the band’s 2010 song playing an armed thug pursuing the animated characters through the desert in a stylistic car chase and Gorillaz illustrator Jamie Hewlett has now revealed the Hollywood actor worked for free so the group left him some “nice red wine” in his trailer to say thank you.

During an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, Jamie revealed the only request Bruce made was for a helicopter ride so he could get back to a children’s birthday party after the shoot. Jamie said: “Bruce was a real sweetheart. He was so nice and he didn’t charge to be in the video.

“We did in Barstow inbetween Vegas and LA and he said: ‘Yeah I’ll do it I’ll come on a Sunday just can you fly me out by helicopter because I’ve got a kids birthday party to get back to. But I don’t want to be paid. “

Jamie added: “We bought some nice red wine for his trailer. He arrived. He was a sweetheart and he did it. Then he got back in his helicopter and off he went … back to his kids birthday party.”

Jamie previously explained how the connection to Bruce came about revealing he came to see the band perform in Paris, France and took them for a night out on the town.

In an interview with ThreeNews New Zealand back in 2010, Jamie explained: “A very good friend of ours, [businessman] Robert Kraft, came to see the show in Paris … and he said: ‘Can I bring a friend?’ and I said: ‘Sure, sure’.

“And so we met him at the door and sure enough his friend was Bruce. So I said to Bruce: ‘Why are you in Paris?’ And he said he was looking for an apartment. And I said did you find anything nice? And he said he’d seen an apartment that used to belong to D’Artagnan and it was a bit cramped. I didn’t know if he was being serious.

“And he sat and watched the show with me, which was really surreal and he kept going: ‘This is great, man. This is really great’.”

Jamie added of their big night out with the Hollywood star: “Then we went out afterwards and we hit Paris and obviously he knew all the nightspots and we got in everywhere and we had a really good time with him.

“And then met him a few more times and then he did the Stylo video. For free. Because he’s a good guy.”
