Noah Schnapp’s claim he has a new “mystery” boyfriend was an April Fools’ joke.

The actor, 21, known for his role in Stranger Things, shared an Instagram Story on Wednesday (01.04.26) showing himself with his arms around another man as they watched the sunset, sparking reports he was newly loved up.

The image, captioned “One month of us,” appeared to mark a relationship milestone, though Noah did not identify the individual.

Hours later, Noah posted a follow-up Story reading “April fools,” clarifying the nature of the post.

The actor, who also starred in The Tutor, first publicly came out as gay in 2023 via TikTok, describing the response from friends and family.

Noah said: “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘We know,’.”

He added in the same post: “I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought,” referencing his character Will Byers in Stranger Things.

In the video, Noah mouthed the words: “You know what it never was? That serious. It was never that serious. Quite frankly, will never be that serious.”

The character of Will Byers, portrayed by Noah across five seasons of Stranger Things, sees his sexuality gradually explored within the series.

In later seasons, the character comes to terms with his identity and his feelings for his friend Mike Wheeler.

Speaking previously to Variety, Noah confirmed: “(Will) is gay, and he does love Mike (Wheeler.)”

He said: “I think for season four, it was just me playing this character who loves his best friend but struggles with knowing if he’ll be accepted or not, and feeling like a mistake and like he doesn’t belong.”

He added: “Will has always felt like that.

“All his friends, they all have girlfriends and they all fit into their different clubs. Will has never really found anywhere to fit in. I think that’s why so many people come up to me and tell me that they love Will and they resonate with him so much, because it’s such a real character.”

Stranger Things became a global hit for Netflix, earning critical acclaim, awards recognition and a massive, loyal fanbase worldwide.
